Roy Stanley Geiger (January 25, 1885 – January 23, 1947) was a United States Marine Corps four-star general who served in World War I and World War II. In World War II, he became the first Marine Corps general to lead a field army. Geiger commanded the III Amphibious Corps in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 before assuming the command of the U.S.
Geiger’s objective would be the same—to make the Marine in the air fully responsive to the Marine on the ground, a two-edged sword that would confront any enemy with combat power directed at him both horizontally and vertically. General Roy Stanley Geiger, who commanded both air and ground units during World War II, and was the first Marine to lead an army-sized force, died 23 January 1947 at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, and was buried in Arlington Cemetery.
