Euro foreign exchange reference rates. The reference rates are usually updated at around 16:00 CET every working day, except on TARGET closing days. They are based on the daily concertation procedure between central banks across Europe, which normally takes place around 14:10 CET.
The ECB reference rates, which are exchange rates against the euro, are updated every day at around 16:00. The Bloomberg rates are collected at the end of the day and updated overnight. The exchange rates for discontinued currencies, such as the currencies replaced by the euro, are for the latest dates on which they were each available.

The countries are grouped in the different figures (1a-1d) depending on their national currency’s exchange rate against the euro in 2023. Different scales are used for the y-axes in each part. A fall in the exchange rate shows an appreciation in the value of the national currency and a depreciation in the value of the euro.
