Monessen is a city in southwestern Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States, located along the Monongahela River. The population was 6,876 at the 2020 census.
Our city was built to be a hub for industry and commerce. Monessen is equally situated between 5 county seats, and is part of the Greater Pittsburgh Region, the Mid-Monongahela Valley, the Rivers of Steel Heritage Corridor, and is one of the Western Gateways to the Laurel Highlands.
As of 2020, the only majority-Democratic cities within the county are Arnold and Monessen. That being said, local Democrats running statewide sometimes win additional cities and boroughs.
