Gwen Amber Rose Araujo (February 24, 1985 – October 4, 2002) [1] was an American teenager who was murdered in Newark, California at the age of 17. [2] She was murdered by four men, two of whom she had been sexually intimate with, who beat and strangled her after discovering that she was transgender.
The film dramatizes the events surrounding the 2002 murder of Gwen Araujo, a transgender teenager who was murdered after acquaintances discovered that she had male genitalia. In 2007, the film won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Television Movie or Miniseries at the 18th GLAAD Media Awards.
