15. März 2019 · Mikhl Likht's Yiddish Modernism. In his day Yiddishist Mikhl Likht (1893–1953) was regarded an outlier, and today his work appears in no current anthology of Yiddish literature in translation. Yet he was gifted and passionate, both as a poet and as a translator.
The primary objective of Fishmans book is not an all-encompassing history of the Yiddish language, but a mapping out of the evolution of modern Yiddish culture from its fledgling years in the 1860s to its growth and diffusion in the years after World War One.
