Achim Steiner (* 17. Mai 1961 in Carazinho, Brasilien) ist ein deutsch-brasilianischer Politiker und Untergeneralsekretär bei den Vereinten Nationen (UN). Bis 2016 leitete er als Exekutivdirektor das UN-Umweltprogramm (UNEP). [1] 2017 wurde er Leiter des UN-Entwicklungsprogramms (UNDP).
Achim Steiner (born 17 May 1961) is a Brazilian-born environmentalist who currently serves as the administrator of the United Nations Development Programme and vice-chair of United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
Achim Steiner became UNDP Administrator on 19 June 2017. The United Nations General Assembly confirmed his appointment following his nomination by Secretary-General António Guterres. In April 2021, the General Assembly confirmed his appointment to a second four-year term beginning in June 2021.
The United Nations General Assembly in 2006 unanimously elected Mr. Achim Steiner as Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme for a four-year term, and subsequently for a further four years in 2010.
