The Victorian Society is a charity dedicated to fighting for the preservation of Victorian and Edwardian built heritage and has a statutory role in the planning process.
Major General James Grierson (1859-1914), the Director of Military Operations (DMO) on the general staff and a former defence attaché in Germany, wrote a memorandum in January 1906 which considered such a war to be possible. However, he also reviewed six other options, including war with Russia and war in the colonies.
