Luigi Einaudi (born March 24, 1874, Carrù, Italy—died Oct. 30, 1961, Rome) was an Italian economist and statesman, the first president (1948–55) of the Republic of Italy. After graduating from the University of Turin (1895), Einaudi contributed economic articles to La Stampa, Turin’s leading newspaper.
His father, Giulio Einaudi, was a publisher [5] working with authors including Italo Calvino and Primo Levi, and founder of Giulio Einaudi Editore, [6] while his paternal grandfather, Luigi Einaudi, was President of Italy between 1948 and 1955. His mother, Renata Aldrovandi, played the piano to him as a child. [7]
