Langelinie (English: Long Line) is a pier, promenade and park in central Copenhagen, Denmark, and home of The Little Mermaid statue. The Gefion Fountain is in Langelinie Park, and features a group of animals being driven by the legendary Norse goddess, Gefion. It is the largest monument in Copenhagen and is used as a wishing well.
The grounds were built in the 1660’s as part of the expansion of the fortress Kastellet towards Øresund. In the 19th century the fortification of Copenhagen was abandoned and Langelinie was made into a civil coastal boardwalk and a popular spot for outings.
