Apr. 2024 · Louis I was a Carolingian ruler of the Franks who succeeded his father, Charlemagne, as emperor in 814 and whose 26-year reign (the longest of any medieval emperor until Henry IV [1056–1106]) was a central and controversial stage in the Carolingian experiment to fashion a new European society.
For Louis I Kahn, the buildings had to be built in the spirit of the function they were supposed to serve, and the form and structure became an integral part of the program. The soul of the building was supposed to be reincarnated from a very similar built form.
