Penglai, formerly known as Dengzhou or Tengchow, [a] is a district in the prefecture-level city of Yantai, Shandong Province, in the People's Republic of China. It lies on the northwest corner of the Shandong Peninsula on the southern coast of the Gulf of Bohai. Penglai is famous for its mirages out at sea, which are frequent during May and June.
It is also one of the seven grape coasts in the world and three wine grape producing areas in China. With beautiful coast and 40 tourist attractions, Penglai is awarded one of the best tourism cities. It is worth mentioning that Penglai is also the place with the most mirage in China.

Having long been known as a fairyland, Penglai is one of the three supernatural mountains inhabited by immortals. The other two are Yingzhou and Fangzhang, which were frequently visited for wonder herbs by emperors since Qin and Han dynasties.
