Course Description. First course in a sequence of courses that develop skills and understanding of written music theory. Skills covered will include writing and identifying scales, keys, chord progressions, basic form and analysis, as well as species counterpoint.
This syllabus allows candidates to study Theory of Music and provides a structured approach leading to a thorough knowledge of music theory. The syllabus clearly describes what is expected and how the achievements of the candidate are to be assessed, so that students can be taught to master the requirements
Trinity’s graded music theory exams aim to provide a solid foundation in music literacy: the conventions of Western music notation, melody, rhythm and harmony. At the higher levels, these qualifications also assess basic knowledge of musical history, form and instrumental capabilities (eg range).
Objectives. To gain a better understanding of concepts in music theory. Explore more detailed aspects of music and learn how they are created. To better recognize and identify specific musical concepts in music that we hear (in conjunction with abilities learned in aural skills)
