It borders Xiangfan City to the east, at the convergence of Hubei, Shaanxi and Henan provinces and Chongqing. As a juncture of north, southwest and northwest China, Shiyan is of great importance in Hubei.
As the only national garden city in inland China, Shiyan boasts stunning natural scenery and landscapes. It is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Taoist holy mountain of Wudang Shan. Wudang's peaks, precipices, torrents and mists create archetypal mountain scenery.
Wudang Shan. Wudang Mountain is located in the northwest part of Hubei Province near Shiyan. According to tradition, it is the birthplace of Zhen Wu, who ascended to heaven after many years of meditation and is revered by Taoists as the "Great Emperor." Over time, this attracted many Taoists to come here for meditation.
