Als Reichslehen fiel Weilburg ab 939 an die Bischöfe von Worms. Vögte des Hochstifts Worms waren seit 1124 die Grafen von Nassau. Im Jahr 1255 wurde das Gebiet um Weilburg von Worms an die Grafen von Nassau verpfändet. König Adolf von Nassau erwarb Weilburg im Jahr 1292 ganz für das Haus Nassau.

History. Sources. Nassau Castle. Coordinates: 50°18′37″N 7°47′31″E. Nassau Castle, located in Nassau, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, was the original seat of the House of Nassau. The ruins of the castle are situated on a rock outcropping about 120 m (390 ft) above the Lahn River.
Weilburg was for many years a residence town and governmental seat of the House of Nassau-Weilburg. Even today, the inner town is still characterized by buildings from that time. The most important building is Schloss Weilburg, dating back to the 14th century. It was converted in the 16th and 18th centuries.
