Die Geschichte der Republik Türkei begann am 29. Oktober 1923 mit deren Ausrufung durch Mustafa Kemal Pascha und der Verlegung der Hauptstadt von Istanbul nach Ankara. Vorausgegangen waren der faktische Zusammenbruch des Osmanischen Reiches im Ersten Weltkrieg, der türkische Befreiungskrieg und die Absetzung Sultan Mehmeds VI.
