[PAHR-iss] is a town in Oxford County, incorporated on June 20, 1793 from Number Four Plantations. It set off land to Hebron (1818) and Oxford (1838) and annexed land from Buckfield in 1828. Paris also swapped land with surrounding communities: Woodstock (1828, 1859, 1880), and Norway (1859, 1861).
The Paris Hill Historic District encompasses the historic 19th century village of Paris Hill in Paris, Maine. This village was the primary civic seat in the town, which is also the county seat of Oxford County, and was where county facilities were located until they were moved to South Paris in 1895.

Paris is located on top of a Paleozoic bed of quartz crystallization called Pegmatite, in which many semi-precious gems and rare minerals can be found. Beryl, Garnet, Tourmaline, Amethyst and Smokey Quartz have been found here. Originally the township was large enough for two towns.
