Rupert Hughes, a versatile popular writer, was born in Lancaster, Missouri, on January 31, 1872. When he was seven years old his family moved to Keokuk, Iowa, where his father, Felix, practiced law and his mother, Jean, raised a brood of talented children.
The film was adapted by Gerald C. Duffy , Winifred Dunn, Casey Robinson (uncredited) and Adela Rogers St. Johns from the story by Rupert Hughes. Barthelmess was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
