Ruth Hanna McCormick learned the love and practice of politics from her father Mark Hanna, a businessman who was just beginning his career in politics when she was born in 1880. In 1896, the year she turned 16, Hanna managed the successful presidential campaign of his Ohio neighbor, William McKinley.
