Das Bayerische Armeemuseum ist das militärhistorische Museum des Freistaats Bayern. Es wurde 1879 in München gegründet. Zu dieser Zeit hatte das 1871 dem Deutschen Reich beigetretene Bayern bedeutende Reservatrechte, darunter nach wie vor eine eigene Armee unter dem Oberbefehl seines Monarchen.

It contains historical information about the Königlich Bayerisches Gendarmeriekorps (Bavarian Gendarmerie), the Bavarian police during the National Socialist era and, in general, the development of the municipal and city police as well as the state, water protection, border and riot police.
The collections focus on Bavaria in its European context and cover the period from the late Middle Ages to the present day. The Bavarian Army Museum seeks a critical and historically accurate reflection on military confrontation and the role of the army in history and their impact on people, society and government.
The I Royal Bavarian Corps (along with the II Royal Bavarian Corps) participated in the Franco-Prussian War as part of the 3rd Army. It initially fought in the battles of Worth, Beaumont and Bazeilles, where it lost about 7,000 men, it also fought at the decisive battle of Sedan.

The Bavarian Army was the army of the Electorate (1682–1806) and then Kingdom (1806–1919) of Bavaria. It existed from 1682 as the standing army of Bavaria until the merger of the military sovereignty ( Wehrhoheit) of Bavaria into that of the German State in 1919.
