28. Okt. 2007 · The Trial of Polverel. Étienne Polverel was a lawyer, and was appointed a French public prosecutor in 1791. He died in April 1795, shortly after the beginning of a trial in which he and Sonthonax were accused by white colonists of treasonous activities in Saint-Domingue.
Prelude. Arrival of Commissioners in Saint-Domingue. On 17 September 1792, the commissars Léger-Félicité Sonthonax, Étienne Polverel and Jean-Antoine Ailhaud landed in Cap-Français with 6,000 men from the French Republican army.
