Johnny Otis (born Ioannis Alexandres Veliotes (Ιωάννης Αλέξανδρος Βελιώτης); December 28, 1921 – January 17, 2012) was a first generation Greek-American singer, musician, composer, bandleader, record producer, and talent scout. [1] He was a seminal influence on American R&B and rock and roll.
21. Jan. 2012 · As a drummer, Otis can be heard on Stan Kenton's Opus a Dollar Three Eighty (1944), Illinois Jacquet's Flying Home (1945) and Lester Young's Jammin' With Lester (1946). Otis also played piano, vibes and guitar, and he had little trouble finding and holding onto talent.

Johnny Otis war ein US-amerikanischer Bandleader, Multiinstrumentalist, Musikproduzent und Talentsucher, der vor allem in den 1950er Jahren populär war. 1994 wurde er in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen und erhielt den Pioneer Award der R&B Foundation. 2000 wurde er außerdem Mitglied der Blues Hall of Fame.
