The Cleveland Indians won their second pennant in 1948 after beating the Boston Red Sox in an 8-3 playoff for the American League championship. The series featured the pitching of Bob Feller, Gene Bearden, Bob Lemon and Johnny Sain, and the appearance of the first black pitcher in a World Series, Satchel Paige.
