With a history of over 250 years, the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts is one of the oldest training institutions for fine arts in Europe. It was founded by the Wettins as the “Haupt-Kunst-Akademie” (Main Art Academy) in 1764.
Initially home to the Royal Academy of Art, the building is now the seat of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and an exhibition venue. In 1945, the Academy of Fine Arts was largely destroyed.
