The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) was a British drama school. It had two sites: ALRA South on Wandsworth Common in south London and ALRA North in Wigan, Greater Manchester. It was founded in 1979 by director and actor Sorrel Carson who then directed the school as its principal until 2001.

ALRA is a drama school based in London and Wigan, our training includes PG acting, foundation in acting, MA acting courses and BA in acting (Hons) degree.
The Academy of Live & Recorded Arts (ALRA) was founded in 1979 by Sorrel Carson-Hanau, Caryll Ziegler and Mark Hanau (Sorrel’s son). ALRA was created to be inclusive and accessible, but importantly it had a strong focus on TV & radio which, at that time, was not catered for within traditional drama schools.
ALRA aims to equip actors and theatre technicians with those skills fundamental to a productive and creative life in the performance industries. ALRA is dedicated to helping students of all backgrounds and ages to enter the world of live and recorded arts. ALRA has a distinguished record of producing professionals prepared and ready to work.
