Addie E. McFarland High School was the segregated high school serving African American students from 1950 to 1965 in Mineola, Texas. The institution had prior been named Mineola Colored High School (1947 to 1950) and South Ward High School (1889 to 1947).

J. M. Henry was principal in 1931. The "old" school structure was destroyed by fire in 1927. Between the summer of 1937 and the fall of 1939, the red building, remembered by most, was built. In the late 1940's, the school's name was changed from South Ward to Mineola Colored High. At this time, the school only went through the tenth grade.
Addie E. McFarland High School was the segregated high school serving African American students in Mineola, Texas, from 1950 to 1965. The institution had prior been Mineola Colored High School and South Ward High School.
On December 8, 1952 the Board of Education of Mineola ISD voted to name the negro schools the Addie E. McFarland Elementary School and the Addie E. Mcfarland High School. Miss McFarland's contributions to the education of the youth of Mineola will always be remembered.

The new high school suffered a fire in 1924, and was immediately rebuilt. Mineola High School was an all-white school until the fall of 1966, when the old South Ward school, known formally as Addie E. McFarland High School and Mineola schools were integrated.
