His name was Alexandre Colonna-Walewski, and he was born in 1810 to Napoleon I and a Polish noblewoman. His Wikipedia article has a nice write-up about him, but it doesn't detail to what extent the rumours of his ancestry were taken seriously during his life, and how did that impact his relationship with Napoleon III, considering Alexandre was pretty close to him politically.
