Allan Joseph MacEachen PC OC (July 6, 1921 – September 12, 2017) was a Canadian politician and statesman who served as a senator and several times as a Cabinet minister. He was the first deputy prime minister of Canada and served from 1977 to 1979 and 1980 to 1984.

13. Sept. 2017 · Allan J. MacEachen, a driving force behind social policy changes under two prime ministers, has died at the age of the 96 after a lifetime saturated with politics and parliamentary manoeuvres.
First elected to office in 1953, under the Liberal government of Louis St. Laurent, Mr. MacEachen was a pivotal force in designing Canada’s social programs. As Minister of Labour he was instrumental in reforming the labour code and in establishing a new standard for the minimum wage.
