Auguste Joseph Alphonse Gratry (usually known as Joseph Gratry; 10 March 1805 − 6 February 1872) was a French Catholic priest, author and theologian . Biography. Gratry was born at Lille and educated at the École Polytechnique of Paris. In 1828, he went on to study theology at seminary in Strasbourg under the tutelage of the abbé Bautain.
Alphonse Joseph Auguste Gratry 1, né à Lille le 30 mars 1805, mort à Montreux le 7 février 1872, est un prêtre catholique et philosophe français, restaurateur de l'Oratoire de France . Le père Gratry fut considéré, avec Henri Lacordaire, comme le prêtre le plus éloquent de 1830 à 1870, quelque chose comme « le Malebranche du XIXe siècle ».
