Alyssa Whitall "Alys" Pearsall Smith (21 July 1867 – 22 January 1951) was an American-born British Quaker relief organiser and the first wife of Bertrand Russell. She chaired the society that created an innovative school for mothers in 1907.

Alys Pearsall Smith Russell (1867-1951), Bertrand Russell's firs t. wife, was an early "libber" who not only worked politically for women's rights but also sought to improve the immediate social conditions of poor women. She was involved deeply in movements for temperance, better factory conditions, and higher education.
This chapter discusses Russell's love and affection for Alys, the youngest daughter of Robert Pearsall Smith and his wife, Hannah. Although Alys initially displayed a disdain for marriage, she eventually succumbed to his courtship on September 16, 1893. They eventually got married on May 31, 1894.
