From a young age, he displayed a keen interest in literature and poetry, which would later become integral to his artistic endeavors. Breton studied medicine and psychiatry, which exposed him to the theories of Sigmund Freud and the concept of the unconscious mind. These ideas would greatly influence his artistic vision.
