Anne Hill Carter Lee (March 26, 1773 – June 26, 1829) was the First Lady of Virginia from 1791 to 1794 as the wife of the ninth governor, Henry Lee III. She was the mother of the general-in-chief of the Confederate States of America, Robert E. Lee.
Portrait of Lee. Anne Carter Lee was born on June 18, 1839, at Arlington Plantation in Virginia. She was the fourth child and second daughter of Robert E. Lee and Mary Anna Custis Lee. Lee was named after her grandmother, Anne Hill Carter Lee, and was a member of the prominent Lee family.

25. Mai 2021 · Then Ann remembered a verse from her Bible, a beautiful Bible that had been given her as a little girl on her happy and prosperous estate, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1).
On June 18, 1793, Lee married the wealthy Anne Hill Carter (1773–1829) at Shirley Plantation. Anne was the daughter of Charles Carter, Esq., of Shirley , and his wife Ann Butler Moore . She was also a descendant of King Robert II of Scotland through the 2nd Earl of Crawford.
