Archibald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny (2 October 1809 – 23 January 1851), was a British Liberal politician. Origins. He was the eldest son and heir apparent of Archibald Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery (1783–1868), whom he predeceased, by his wife Harriett Bouverie. Education. Dalmeny was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1]
His father was Archibald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny (1809–1851), son and heir apparent to Archibald Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery (1783–1868), whom he predeceased. Lord Dalmeny was a courtesy title used by the Earl's eldest son and heir apparent, during the Earl's lifetime, and was one of the Earl's lesser Scottish titles.

Harry Primrose was born in 1967, and is the son and heir of Neil Primrose, 7th Earl of Rosebery. He is a great-grandson of Prime Minister Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, and Hannah de Rothschild, the richest woman in Britain. The earls of Rosebery own Dalmeny House and also owned Mentmore Towers until 1977.

The Civil War Years. An ardent royalist, he joined Montrose's army during the Civil War, and was captured at the battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. On Charles II's abortive attempt to regain the throne in 1650 Archibald Primrose joined the Royalist Army. He marched with them to the battle of Worcester, after which he lost his estates.
