  1. Archibald Primrose, Lord Dalmeny (2 October 1809 – 23 January 1851), was a British Liberal politician. Origins. He was the eldest son and heir apparent of Archibald Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery (1783–1868), whom he predeceased, by his wife Harriett Bouverie. Education. Dalmeny was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1]

  5. The Civil War Years. An ardent royalist, he joined Montrose's army during the Civil War, and was captured at the battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. On Charles II's abortive attempt to regain the throne in 1650 Archibald Primrose joined the Royalist Army. He marched with them to the battle of Worcester, after which he lost his estates.
