The Austin High School Gang was the name given to a group of young, white musicians from the West Side of Chicago, who all attended Austin High School during the early 1920s. They rose to prominence as pioneers of the Chicago Style in the 1920s, which was modeled on a hurried version of New Orleans Jazz .

Austin High Gang. Chicago-style jazz began on the far West Side when six student musicians from Austin High School got together at a local ice cream parlor to listen to their favorite hot music—jazz. After they discovered the 1922 recordings of the New Orleans Rhythm Kings (NORK), they made a collective decision to pursue jazz careers.
Biografie. Anfang der 20er Jahre schloss er sich einer Jazzgruppe weißer High-School-Schüler an, die später als die Austin High School Gang bekannt wurde. An den Wochenenden besuchte die Band, unter anderem Bud Freeman, den Klub Lincoln Garden, um die Jazzband von Joe „King“ Oliver zu hören.
