  3. Sir Charles Firth (born March 16, 1857, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England—died February 19, 1936, Oxford, Oxfordshire) was an English historian noted for his work on 17th-century English history. Firth was educated at Clifton and at New College and Balliol College, Oxford. He settled in Oxford in 1883 and lived there for the rest of his life.

  5. Balliol College welcomes visitors who wish to tour our buildings and gardens. We are open as often as we can be, but from time to time there are College events that require the College to be closed. As part of admission, you will be able to visit the gardens, Chapel and Hall. We are open from 10. 00 am until 5. 00 pm (or dusk, whichever is sooner).
