In the film, Donlevy plays Norman Craig, a detective undercover in a tough prison, hoping to find evidence that the men the DA wants to accuse of a recent bank robbery did, in fact, commit the crime. The movie opens with a failed prison break, one that ends with Craig's undercover partner dead of a bullet to the head.
