"The Goof", "3D" and "Nervous Man Nervous" are among the wildest tracks he ever recorded. "Mule Milk" is almost as wild but has crowd noises overdubbed in attempt to recreate the crazed atmosphere of Big Jay's live concerts.

Big Jay was the first R & B tenor sax player to display a wild acrobatic style in his live performances, playing his honking saxophone while lying on his back, up on top of the bar, and in various other wild positions. His signature record, "The Deacon's Hop," was a #1 R & B single in 1949.
