Die Gruppen der Blackfoot waren nicht hierarchisch organisiert, wurden jedoch von Häuptlingen geführt und bei größeren Gruppen gab es zusätzliche Unterhäuptlinge. In Kriegszeiten übernahm zuweilen ein erfahrener Mann als Kriegshäuptling die Führung. Einzelne Blackfoot konnten die Gruppe beliebig wechseln.
