He was encouraged and assisted by Tom Collins to move to Nashville in the late 1960s and since then has recorded with Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers, The Judds, Ronnie Milsap, Jerry Garcia, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash to name a few.
