Booker Little's trumpet playing is second to none--the purity of his tone, his expressive lyricism, the melodic inventiveness, it gets me every time. There's something deeply rejuvenating about this album, such a sincerity of intention and conviction in performance. Every time I spin it I just think, man, what a masterpiece.
