Leben. Donny Hathaway wuchs in St. Louis, Missouri auf. Bereits mit drei Jahren sang er im Kirchenchor, im Kindesalter lernte er Klavier spielen. Dank seines herausragenden Klavierspiels erhielt er 1965 ein Stipendium für die Howard University in Washington, D.C.
