A member of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party , Peckford was first elected as the Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for Green Bay following the 1972 general election .

  6. 14. Feb. 2008 · Alfred Brian Peckford, teacher, politician, premier of Newfoundland (b at Whitbourne, Nfld 27 Aug 1942). Peckford was first elected to the House of Assembly on 24 Mar 1972. In 1973 he was a special assistant to Frank Moores; in 1974 minister of municipal affairs and housing; and in 1976 minister of mines and energy.

  7. Brian Peckford, who led Newfoundland from 1979 to 1989, now lives on Vancouver Island and faces the same challenge of finding a family doctor. He has written to Ottawa and Victoria, asking them to ensure B.C. meets the Canada Health Act requirements for access to medical care.
