In den R&B-Charts erreichte sie sogar Platz 1. Bis 1982 blieb sie dem Disco-Genre mehr oder weniger treu, Songs wie Run to Me, Destiny (1976), Victim (1978), When You Wake Up Tomorrow (1979) und Looking for Love (1980) waren ihre weiteren Hits in den amerikanischen Disco-Charts.
They divorced in 1973. Staton was married to Jimmy James, her then manager, from 1974 until 1977. Two years after divorcing James, Staton married John Sussewell, who was a drummer for Ashford & Simpson and also on Dory Previn's sixth album We're Children of Coincidence and Harpo Marx in 1980.
