Founded in 1914, [1] and originally named Church Peace Union, Carnegie Council is an independent and nonpartisan institution, aiming to be the foremost voice of ethics in international affairs. The Council focuses on Ethics, War and Peace, Global Social Justice, and Religion in Politics as its three main themes.
Founded by Andrew Carnegie over a century ago, we set the global ethical agenda and work for an ethical future by convening leading experts, building active communities, producing agenda-setting resources, and catalyzing the creation of ethical solutions to global problems.

Carnegie Council was founded in New York on the eve of World War I. Andrew Carnegie hoped to mobilize the world’s religious organizations and other ethical resources to join in promoting moral leadership and finding alternatives to armed conflict.
