In 1858, she was appointed the first vice regent for Florida by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. Together with Ellen Call Long, she raised significant funds for the acquisition and restoration of Mount Vernon.

She married twice, firstly at the early age of thirteen, to Atcherson Gray, who died with in 12 months of their marriage [2], she married secondly, on July 11, 1826, in Leon, Florida, Achille Murat.
