Charles James Folger (April 16, 1818 – September 4, 1884) was an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Republican Party, he was a State Senator in New York from 1862 to 1869 and served as the 34th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from November 14th, 1881 until his death in 1884.

The Historical Society of the New York Courts was founded in 2002 by then New York State Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye. Its mission is to preserve, protect and promote the legal history of New York, including the proud heritage of its courts and the development of the Rule of Law.
After working as a lawyer and judge, Folger began a political career in 1861 when he was elected as a Republican to the New York State Senate. Following the Civil War, Folger became a figure in the conservative and often corrupt machine-driven Stalwart wing of the Republican Party.
