In der Michaelisstraße, gegenüber der Michaeliskirche, in der Luther 1522 predigte, ist das Collegium Maius (Hauptgebäude) der 1379 gegründeten und im 15. Jahrhundert sehr bedeutenden Universität zu sehen. Der Reformator wurde 1501 als „Martinus Ludher ex Mansfeldt" immatrikuliert.
