  1. 19. Apr. 2024 · by Matt Micucci. On January 1, 1913, Louis Armstrong attended a New Year’s Eve parade and shot six blanks from his stepfather’s .38 revolver. A policeman arrested him on the spot. Later that day, Judge Andrew Wilson sentenced the young boy to the Colored Waif’s Home, a reform school on the outskirts of New Orleans.

  7. Louis Armstrong was born in a poor section of New Orleans on August 4, 1901. He was raised primarily by his mother and attended the Fisk School for Boys where he was first exposed to music before he dropped out at age 11 to join a quartet of boys who sang on street corners for money.
