The band is on tremendous form; Bobby Hackett had rehearsed it in Louis’s absence on tour. Hackett and Armstrong were friends and he plays trumpet on the session playing beautifully, but never getting in Armstrong’s way. Apparently this music was nearly lost for posterity as the original recordings from the concert were of poor quality ...

Jan. 1997 · Louis Armstrong recorded for RCA Victor for two relatively brief periods in his long career, in the early days of his big band (1932 to '33) and in the period when he broke up the orchestra and returned to a New Orleans-style smaller ensemble (1946 to '47). This four-CD set is evenly divided between the two periods.

In 2001, whenMosaic Records released The Complete Capitol Bobby Hackett Solo Sessions on a five-CD limited edition set, most of the tracks were from Gleason's mood music albums. According to the liner notes, Hackett was paid $30,000 to $40,000 for six albums for Gleason.
