In 1960, Reed died and Thompson brought in Creadel "Red" Jones who was a member of the Desideros to replace him. In early 1964 the group changed their name to the Hi-Lites and released a song, "I'm So Jealous", with Record on lead.

About The Chi-Lites. It started in 1959 when Marshall Thompson formed a vocal group called the “Hi-Lights” in his hometown of Chicago with fellow members Eugene Record, Robert Lester and Creadel “Red” Jones. After releasing several singles on local labels, the group changed their name in 1964 to “Marshall & The Chi-Lites”.
Creadel "Red" Jones - 1959-1973, 1980-1982 (born September 26, 1940, Chicago; died August 25, 1994). Vocalist who came to prominence in the American R&B/soul vocal quartet, “The Chi-Lites. The Chi-Lites (“shy lights") are an American R&B/soul vocal quartet from Chicago, Illinois, United States.
The legendary Chi-Lites formed in 1959 in Chicago, Illinois with the soulful blues melodies of the band, with their leader, Marshall Thompson, and the remaining Chi-Lites: their songwriter and lead singer Eugene Record, Robert "Squirrel" Lester and Creadel "Red" Jones.
Originally called the Hi-Lites, they consisted of Marshall Thompson (birthday 24th Aug), Creadel “Red” Jones, Eugene Record, Robert Lester (birthday 16th August) and Clarence Johnson.
While still in high school, Thompson along with Creadel "Red" Jones were part of a vocal group, The Desideros before joining The Hi-Lites whose members included Eugene Record, Robert "Squirrel" Lester, and Clarence Johnson in 1959.
