Based on Émile Zola's 1890 novel La Bête humaine, and set during the Blitz, the film stars David Suchet as Ruben Roberts, a railway official who discovers that his wife, Selina (Saskia Reeves), was sexually abused as a child by the Chairman of the Line, Arthur Grandridge (David Belcher), who is her godfather.

Jan. 1995 · In wartime England, a railway official learns that the chairman of the line had sexually abused his wife as a child, then given him the job so he could continue having sexual access to her. The husband and wife kill him together, but are seen by a train driver, who also has problems of his own.
Set on a railway line it involves a husband (David Suchet), a railway official, finding out his wife (Saskia Reeves) was abused as a girl and is still being abused by her godfather, who is Chairman of the railway line and who has allowed the husband to progress in his job to keep the wife near.
